Cot FAQ's
Should I choose a cot or a bassinet for my baby?
Both are excellent options, but they suit different stages. A bassinet is ideal for newborns and keeps your baby close during the first few months, especially for overnight feeds. They are smaller in size than most cots, so are great if baby will be sleeping in the parents bedroom for the first few months (recommended by Health New Zealand). A cot offers a longer-term sleep solution from birth through to toddlerhood with some styles converting to toddler beds. Many families begin with a bassinet like the SnüzPod before transitioning to a cot.
What makes a cot safe?
There are several points to look at when choosing a safe cot. First and foremost, choose a cot that meets the AS/NZS 2172 Standard for Household Cots. This covers the safety of the cot itself, including the min and max width of the bars, the depth of the cot from the top of the mattress base to the lowest side points and more. Additionally, we recommend choosing a fixed side cot. Drop-side cots have been banned in America due to the failure of the dropside safety catch, so we always recommend a fixed side. What if I have a small nursery?
There are plenty of ways to make the most of a compact space. A mini cot can provide a safe sleeping area without taking up as much room as a standard cot, while clever storage caddies help keep essentials such as nappy, wipes & creams organised. Multifunctional products, such as the Hauck bouncer that's compatible with the matching high chair, are another great way to maximise space.
