Woolbabe Clothing Guide - What to Dress Baby in at Night

Woolbabe Clothing Guide - What to Dress Baby in at Night

It can drive parents crazy trying to decide what clothing to dress their child in when it's either really warm or really cold. In fact we get questions about this year round, as lots of babies are very sensitive to being at just the right temperature. And this is a topic that can keep mums awake at night!

Overall we find woolbabe sleeping bags very forgiving about what you dress your baby in. The 100% natural fabric means you can use the bags in a very wide range of temperatures as the wool content helps regulate your child's temperature and also absorbs moisture, wicking it away from the skin.

However it makes life much easier if you have some idea of what clothing will work as a starting point.

Each woolbabe comes with a room thermometer

Every Woolbabe sleeping bag comes with a handy room thermometer that indicates the ambient temperature. On the back of the thermometer is a clothing guide.

It's good to note that every baby and child is different and it's important not to overheat your baby. The guides below are just that, guides, use them as a starting point and adjust accordingly, making sure to check that they are not too hot or too cold.

As with bedding we recommend using natural fibre clothing or sleepwear with your Woolbabe, such as Merino, which is excellent at wicking away moisture when it's hot and retaining warmth when it's cold, or 100% cotton.

Handy tip for winter!

Adding wool socks (such as our gorgeous Lamington merino socks) is a great way to add additional warmth without more layers.

Sleeping Bag & Clothing Guide Comparison

If you are choosing between a Tog rated sleeping bag and a natural fibre Woolbabe the following chart will help you to choose a sleeping bag that is suitable for the temperature of the room which baby will be sleeping in, and show how broad a temperature range it can be used in. By adjusting the clothing that baby wears inside the sleeping bag you'll help to make baby more comfortable at different room temperatures. Try to keep baby's room temperature below 27 degrees so that they don't overheat. If the room temperature drops and baby is waking up from the cold choose a warmer weight sleeping bag. Sleeping bags like the Woolbabe are fantastic at adjusting to a wider range of room temperatures because their wool content is naturally temperature regulating.
