We know that transitioning from being swaddled to a hands out position can be tough for some babies AND parents. The Sleepy Hugs Hands In and Out is a great tool to help with this transition without going cold turkey.

The hands in and out sleeping bag (also known as a sleeping sack) is designed for babies 6 months and older to allow them more freedom as they go through developmental changes while giving them the security they need to keep them sleeping longer.

It has all the features of the Sleepy Hugs Original, with the addition of clever fold-over cuffs that can be open to allow your baby to self-soothe before sleep or they can be folded closed to give your baby the security they need to keep them sleeping throughout the night.

This sleeping bag is 2.5 tog rated meaning it is great for the colder winter season. The unique 2.5 tog quilting that makes up the sleeping bag is made from soft breathable organic cotton, chosen to keep your baby warm and comfortable and avoid overheating. It has a 2 way zip making it easy for nappy changes at anytime of the day or night. Fold over cuffs allows hands to come out for play time or for self soothing, close to keeps hands toasty warm inside.

The Sleepy Hugs baby sleeping bag is designed to help your baby gently transition out of a restrictive swaddle. It has been designed to be a looser fit than most other baby sleeping bags and is most effective in helping your baby adjust to free arms with the correct size.

The Sleepy Hugs is all about the arm span so it’s important to choose the correct size. If too big, your baby will not get the security and snug fit that they still need in the arms. More importantly, if too big there could be excess fabric that could pose a safety risk.

The correct way to measure your baby's arm span is to measure with your baby’s arms slightly bent from one side to the other - this is how your baby sleeps naturally. Do not measure with your baby's arms fully stretched out - you will not get the right fit.

The Hands In and Out Sleeping Bag is designed for babies 6-12 months and onward. Measurements provided below are related to the garment and do not include your baby's head.

Medium (6-12 months) - suitable for babies from 6 months onwards, weighing 8-10kg. The arm span width of approx. 67m (including the wrist cuffs). The length is approx. 75cm and the neck hole is approx. 12cm.
Large (12+ months) - suitable for babies 12 months and beyond, weighing over 10 kg. The arm span width is approx. 84cm (including the wrist cuffs). The length is approx. 87cm and the neck hole opening is approx. 12cm.

How to Use

How to dress your baby with a TOG rated sleep bag

It's important to use the TOG rating and suggested clothing only as a general guide.

Just like adults feel the temperature differently, your baby will too. For example, you might be fine with a jumper in 16°C degrees weather whereas someone else might be bundled up in a jacket on top of a jumper.

Your baby is your best gauge - Always check your baby regularly to ensure they do not overheat or are too cold. Watch how your baby reacts to different TOG ratings to ensure your baby is warm or cool enough for sleeping. Here are some things to watch out for when dressing your baby for sleep -

Watch for signs of overheating - If your baby has damp hair, sweaty back and chest, red ears, fevers, your baby may be too hot and needs to be dressed down. Take off a layer or use a sleep bag with a lower TOG rating.
Frequent wake-ups - If your baby is waking up crying or fussing, it may be a sign that your baby may be too hot or cold, or it may be due to other developmental reasons (i.e. teething, growth spurt, dropping naps, etc). If your baby feels cold to the touch (back of the neck or chest/back) then add a layer or put on a higher TOG rating sleeping bag.

We ship with Courier Post & Fastway. Packages are sent Non-Signature Required unless over $350 value or you request Signature Required for security concerns.
