Product Description

At The Sleep Store, we love to find and create amazing products that help children sleep better. We strongly believe that layers of merino are an essential tool in helping children sleep better during those cooler months.

We have taken your feedback and give you our new-and-improved Double Layer Merino Sleeping Bag. It has been designed to be warmer, thicker and more durable! This sleeping bag is still incredibly soft and smooth with a beautiful stretch that makes it comfortable enough for a little one to move around in.

It is made from 2 layers of merino - a 100% merino double faced stripe outer, lined with a Wool Rich Blend Fleece inner. The Fleece is away from the body to eliminate excess fluffing inside the bag. It has a 1 way zip that closes from the bottom up, and has aps under the arm to get the perfect fit for those in between sizes. Great for room temperatures between 16-25 degrees.

These sleeping bags are so luscious, soft and super warm and cosy for your baby!

Why do we love Merino so much? Known as the 'miracle fibre' when it comes to infant sleep, Merino wool is a naturally temperature-regulating and moisture wicking fibre. It will help to keep your little one warm in winter but also cool in the warmer months without waking up clammy. It has the ability to naturally lock away odours, releasing them when washed or aired - this can mean less washing... yaye! Merino is also naturally fire retardant. Of course we recommend keeping your children well away from any heaters and fires ("a meter from the heater!") but merino is a naturally low fire danger fabric.

Fire Safety

This product complies with the Product Safety Standard (Children’s Nightwear and Limited Daywear Having Reduced Fire Hazard) Regulations 2016 and  Safety Standard AS/NZS 1249:2014 (Children's Nightwear and Limited Daywear having Reduced Fire Hazard).

  • Merino fleece inner lining
  • Breathable, high quality merino
  • Supremely comfortable & flexible
  • A customer described it as "buttery soft"!
  • Warm yet streamlined
  • Snaps under the arms for a great fit

About our sizing

Our own brand garments follow the Australasian standard AS1182-1997 for sizing and are made with room to grow. Our Size 2 clothing for example is made to fit the standard’s average sized 2.5 year old comfortably.

Tips on how to measure your child
Height/Length - Our height measurement doesn't include a child's head and neck length. Standing straight with a flat foot measure from the base of the heel up to either the top of the shoulder. You may find it easiest for younger children to stand with their back to a wall to do this. Make a small pencil mark on the wall at either the top of the shoulder or head and ask the child to step away before measuring from the floor up to the pencil mark.
Chest - Place tape measure under the arms and measure around the chest at the fullest part until your fingers meet.

Please note - Measurements are taken when garments are laid flat. Areas such as chest, and armhole are calculated at twice the width to get the full measurement.

How to Use

Our Double Layer Merino bag is suitable for temperatures around 16-25 degrees. The temperature range is dependent on the layers your bub is wearing with this bag. We would likely compare this bag to be between a 3-seasons Woolbabe sleeping bag and a Duvet Woolbabe sleeping bag.

Check out our article on 'What to dress baby in at night' for a guide on layers to wear under your sleeping bag.

Materials & Care

Merino sleeping bags, bedding, swaddles and clothing are easy to care for when following the correct guidelines. Please see our care instructions included with your garment.

Outer - 100% Double Faced Merino Wool (220gsm)
Inner - Merino Fleece - 83% Merino Wool, 17% Elastane (360gsm)
Woolmark Extra Fine - 19.5 Microns
Certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX
Gentle (wool cycle) machine or hand wash in cold or 30°C water with liquid wool wash
Dry immediately - lay flat or hang dry
Do not tumble dry

I'm naturally fluffy

These garments are naturally fluffy but washing separately for the first few washes will help the natural wool fibres on the inside to settle and will free any excess fluff.

Care for your merino

As with many wool garments, you may experience a bit of pilling on this garment. Please note this is often due to a soft fibre such as merino rubbing against other fabrics, such as flannelette sheets. We consider pilling a normal part of wear and tear on a soft merino garment. We could have treated the fabric much more to reduce pilling but then it would lose its lovely, snuggly softness.

Please take care with moths

Protect your Merino from small holes created by insects such as moths and silverfish. Ensure your garments are clean before storing. Lavender and Cedar wood are noxious to these pests so storing your garments with these scents or a moth trap will help protect your knitwear further.

Love your Merino and it will love you back!
