Why should I use an Ultrasonic Humidifier?
The real question is why shouldn’t you? Humidifiers add essential moisture to indoor air, which may relieve congestion from the common cold and flu and soothe scratchy throats, dry skin and eyes, and irritated sinuses. Perfect for babies, adults, and everyone in between, a humidifier’s additional moisture thins the mucus in the sinuses, which may make it easier to breathe. And we know that when it comes down to your family’s health, you’re all about breathing easy! Even if you’re feeling great, our Crane Humidifiers are must-haves. From smooth skin to shiny hair to cared-for furniture, they keep you and your home looking beautiful and feeling comfortable.
Ultrasonic Humidifier or Vaporiser?
Humidifier is the name in the US for what is usually called a Vaporiser in New Zealand and Australia. It is important to note that Crane Adorable, Drop, Droplet and Travel Humidifer/Vaporisers are cool mist Ultrasonic Vaporisers, not to be confused with warm mist or steam vaporisers. We use the terms Humidifer and Vaporiser interchangebly when referring to Crane products.
Which is Better: Warm Mist or Cool Mist?
The major difference is that a Warm Mist Humidifier is heating the water to produce steam vapour. Cool Mist Humidifiers use an Ultrasonic Nebuliser that vibrates at a very high frequency to produce an extra fine water mist. When it comes to humidifying a room, there is not much of a difference between the two types - both are equally effective. However, paediatricians and parents alike recommend Cool Mist Humidifiers for babies and children because there is no heating element, which could be a safety risk for a child. Cool Mist Humidifiers can also save money on energy costs.
Is the size of the water tank it uses important?
Yes, if you want the vaporiser to keep working all night without having to refill. The larger the tank the longer the humidifer will keep producing cool mist vapour between refills. The Crane Drop and Adorable humidifiers can run up to 24 hours on a single 3.8L tank of water. The smaller 1.9L Droplet runs for up to 15hours. The Essentials in a Box Vaporiser has a much smaller 250ml tank and runs for almost 8 hours and about the same time as the Mini Travel Humidifier . The Crane Drop, Droplet & Adorable humidifiers also output a greater volume of cool mist vapour which makes them suited to small and large rooms.
Can I use Crane Aromatherapy Scents with my Crane Vaporiser?
Yes. Crane Aromatherapy scents are non-oil based aromas designed to be used with Crane vaporisers. These are a good solution if you would like to add an aroma to the cool mist generated by the Crane ultrasonic vaporiser.
Can I use Essential Oils with my Crane Vaporiser?
No. It is the cool mist produced by water alone in the Crane Vaporisers that is designed to provide relief for dry coughs, nasal congestion, and croup. Pediatricians recommend cool mist to relieve cold and flu symptoms, soothe the throat and reduce swelling. Using oils is not required for the Crane humidifier to be effective in relieving these symptoms, and not recommended as over time oils will degrade the plastic and interfere with the operation of the ultrasonic membrane. For this reason we recommend that oils NOT be used with Crane humidifiers. A glass or ceramic diffuser is more suited for use with oils.
Crane have recently released Crane Aromatherapy Scents. These are non-oil based aromas that can safely be added to Crane humidifiers without any risk of damaging the unit and which enable them to emit an aroma. Currently three scents are available: Focus, Soothing & Energy. Find out more here.
Can Newborns benefit from an ultrasonic humidifier?
Newborns are Obligate Nasal Breathers, meaning that they can only breathe in through their nose for the first 4-6 months of their lives. Their nostrils are so small that even the tiniest clog can make everything from feeding to sleeping difficult and frustrating. Perhaps more importantly, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises against using over the counter cold medication for children under the age of 6. For these reasons, paediatricians recommend using Cool Mist Humidifiers without essentials oils to relieve cold and flu symptoms in children.
What’s the Best Way to Clean my Crane Drop, Droplet or Adorable Humidifier?
It’s simple. Regular cleaning will keep your humidifier running smoother, for longer. We highly recommend emptying the water tank and basin after each use and disinfecting them at least once a week with water and a few capfuls of white vinegar. Please check the Manual for further instructions.
Do I need a Filter to run my Crane Drop, Droplet or Adorable Humidifier?
Nope. We’re all about simple, clean design, so our humidifiers work perfectly without a filter. One might be necessary if you notice a fine white dust collecting near your Adorable. If so you can also switch to distilled water to lower the dust-building mineral content. Crane Demineralization Filters remove excess minerals, reducing the white dust so your air (and your home) stays clean.
