Woolbabe Clothing Guide - What to Dress Baby in at Night

Woolbabe Clothing Guide - What to Dress Baby in at Night

It can drive parents crazy trying to decide what clothing to dress their child in when it's either really warm or really cold. In fact we get questions about this year round, as lots of babies are very sensitive to being at just the right temperature. And this is a topic that can keep mums awake at night!

Overall we find woolbabe sleeping bags very forgiving about what you dress your baby in. The 100% natural fabric means you can use the bags in a very wide range of temperatures as the wool content helps regulate your child's temperature and also absorbs moisture, wicking it away from the skin.

However it makes life much easier if you have some idea of what clothing will work as a starting point.

What is the difference between Woolbabe Sleeping Bag weights?

There are three different weights of Woolbabe Sleeping Bags, the Summer, 3 Seasons and Duvet Weight, plus the Duvet Weight with Sleeves. So no matter what room temperature, there is an option to suit. Watch Lou explain the difference between the 1 layer Summer Sleeping Bag, the 2 layer 3-Seasons Sleeping Bag and the Duvet Weight sleeping bag, which has 100% merino fill and a one layer merino/cotton outer.

Each Woolbabe comes with a room thermometer

Every Woolbabe sleeping bag or sleeping suit comes with a handy room thermometer that indicates the ambient temperature. On the back of the thermometer is a clothing guide.

It's good to note that every baby and child is different and it's important not to overheat your baby. The guides below are just that, guides, use them as a starting point and adjust accordingly, making sure to check that they are not too hot or too cold.

As with bedding we recommend using natural fibre clothing or sleepwear with your Woolbabe, such as merino, which is excellent at wicking away moisture when it's hot and retaining warmth when it's cold, or 100% cotton.

Handy tip for winter!

Adding wool socks (such as our gorgeous Woolbabe Sleepy Socks) is a great way to add additional warmth without more layers.

Woolbabe Duvet Weight with Sleeves (Winter weight)

Filled with super snuggly 100% merino, these bags are one of the warmest sleeping bags for babies. They have a durable, easy care 30% merino & 70% organic cotton blend outer and a 100% cotton lining. The sleeves are also quilted and filled with a lighter weight of merino to ensure good movement.

Please note that the World Health Organisation recommend that children do not sleep in rooms colder than 18 degrees, so we recommend using a heater on low if your child's room gets below 18 degrees.

Sleeping Bag & Clothing Guide Comparison

If you are choosing between a Tog rated sleeping bag and a natural fibre Woolbabe the following chart will help you to choose a sleeping bag that is suitable for the temperature of the room which baby will be sleeping in, and show how broad a temperature range it can be used in. By adjusting the clothing that baby wears inside the sleeping bag you'll help to make baby more comfortable at different room temperatures. Try to keep baby's room temperature below 27 degrees so that they don't overheat. If the room temperature drops and baby is waking up from the cold choose a warmer weight sleeping bag. Sleeping bags like the Woolbabe are fantastic at adjusting to a wider range of room temperatures because their wool content is naturally temperature regulating.

What's the difference in weights of Woolbabe Sleeping Bags?

Ever wondered what the difference is between the weights of our Woolbabe Sleeping Bags? Listen to Lou as she explains the difference between a Woolbabe Summer Sleeping Bag, Woolbabe 3 Seasons Sleeping Bag and Woolbabe Duvet Weight Sleeping Bag. The Summer Bag is made from 1 layer of the signature Woolbabe merino/organic cotton fabric. It's a very light and supple fabric, with the merino component giving excellent moisture-wicking qualities for summer. The 3 Seasons is made from 2 layers of the Woolbabe signature fabric. It's still beautifully soft and supple, but able to be used in cooler temperatures (approx 18-28 degrees) with the right layers underneath. The Duvet Weight bag has our signature merino/organic cotton outer, an organic cotton lining and is filled with 100% merino. It can be used for temperatures between 14 and 22 degrees celcius by changing the layers your baby is wearing underneath.
